Creating a full layout with stock-images that would match agency's subsequent product shoot

Objective

A new KFC porridge was to be launched. For cost-efficiency, agency only needed to shoot the product edged-out. I was tasked to create a photo-background and layout to later be matched with agency’s approved photo. Stock images were thus used, by combining different elements; nature background, table cloth and ingredients. It was key for each image to match the standardised camera angle.

To facilitate a timely layout approval, I developed a temp 'DIY' mock of the porridge itself by utilising photography from a previous, similar product.

By meticulously manipulating the colors and textures in Photoshop to match the new recipe's profile (i.e green rice), I was able to present a concept visual while the official agency shoot was still being coordinated.

This approach allowed the design phase to progress without delay, with the final professional photography seamlessly replacing the placeholder mockup once agency's shoot was completed the following week.

The temp DIY mock was used in the three proposed options for early approval of a background/ layout.

Approach

“This approach allowed the design phase to progress without delay, with the final professional photography seamlessly replacing the placeholder mockup once agency's shoot was completed the following week.”

Result

Once the preferred layout and style were finalized, I proceeded to purchase the high-resolution licenses for the selected stock imagery to ensure a professional finish.

With the core creative approved, I then transitioned into the production phase, meticulously adapting the design into a variety of technical formats.

This included scaling and optimizing the assets for high-definition digital menu boards and self-service kiosks, ensuring visual consistency and legibility across all in-restaurant digital platforms.
