A.I. Film Poster
Exploring a whole new approach to overcome limited resources
Objective
To conceive and create a full-size movie poster for a completed indie feature film shot in Perth. Due to the low-budget nature of the production, no professional photography sessions were arranged, nor were there any initial concepts to work from. However, with A.I. being used as a common tool for graphic design, there was a significant opportunity to try a new exciting method to create, or more accurately, to "generate" a professional film poster.
The first step was to conceive a key visual that captured the essence and genre of the film—a blend of drama, fantasy, and adventure. This led me to place the protagonist, Rose, at the center of a fantastical landscape; while not a literal recreation of an actual scene, the backdrop embodies key symbolic elements of the story.
The next critical step was to find an AI service that could produce photo-realistic results. The first few AI websites proved difficult, as they appeared better at generating illustrations suited for novels or children's storybooks.
Ultimately, I settled on ‘Krea’ because it generated the realistic results I needed.
Additionally, it enabled me to upload reference samples, ie screenshots from the actual film which helped skew the results closer to my concept.
The Krea website also featured a built-in upscaler, which was key to producing a full-size standard movie poster (One-Sheet, 27" x 40”) once a satisfying result was reached.
Approach

“The first few AI websites proved difficult, as they appeared better at generating illustrations suited for novels or children's storybooks.”
Result
The process involved a series of trial and error, resulting in various unusable generations before I settled on an iteration closest to my concept, which you see here.
Once the final result was upscaled, I added the tagline, "For Rose, being lost was only the beginning," which reflected the essence of the narrative.
